CHEERLEADING & A HAIRCUT

Peija Lee is cheering for the Upward Basketball program. She practices once a week and cheers on Saturday mornings. Oh those good ole Saturday morning games, nothing to get the blood flowing on a cold Saturday morning (not so bad in Tennessee)! Our baby Joah Thomas got a haircut. Those beautiful blond locks are gone but nothing can take away that sweet baby's smile. How Grandma & Papa love to get these pictures from the South.

TRIP TO EUROPE

Last summer Jason treated his Dad to a trip to Prague, Bratislava and Vienna with the Tennessee VOLS who played about 5 games over there. What a trip of a lifetime for John. They visited children's hospitals and took gifts. They went to a concentration camp, where Coach Pearl saw names of his family that had been there. It was just an unbelievable experience for everyone. John is so grateful to Jason for this opportunity as I am as well.

Tennessee's Tyler Smith (1) and JaJuan Smith (2) celebrate during the Vols' win over Ohio State. JaJuan scored 15 points and Tyler scored 12 points as Tennessee won 74-69.

YIPPEE THE VOLS WIN AGAIN & AGAIN!!

The VOLS have done it again, they beat Vanderbilt on Thursday (1-17-08) 80-60. Vandy's second loss in as many games. This was Jason's scout. Today (1-19-08) they turned around and beat Ohio State 74-69, it was a nail biter. Keep it VOLS!!!!!

Zach has signed 4 recruits and is out on the road turning every stone to find some more. Signing day is Feb. 6th.

Beau is still is New Jersey and will be winding down this externship at the end of the month. John will be flying out there to ride back with him so he has some company on the 13 hr. trip.

We have Mom at Seminary Manor in their "Bounce Back" program to get her strength up so she can go home. So far so good, she likes it and they are really putting her through the paces, but she doesn't mind.

My grandchildren are doing great as usual. Busy little people who keep their Mom & Dad on the run. Hopefully I will be posting new pictures of them soon.

VOLS Win Again!!!

The Tennessee Vols defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 80-56 for their 2nd conference win. Our All -American candidate Chris Lofton has really been in a funk this season but his teammates have definitely picked him up. I hope he gets on track because my heart goes out to him.

Zach had 35 recruits in on Saturday and they signed 4 of them so he was really pleased with that. He is now on the road recruiting some more hopefully.

Another HAWKEYE graduates!

Carly Lyn Savory graduated from the University of Iowa on Dec. 22, 2007. It was a wonderful ceremony, 3 really good speakers, introduced all the graduates and we were out of there in 1 1/2 hrs. Can't beat a December college graduation! She is living in Chicago with all the other Galesburg kids and has some interviews on the horizon. She shares an apartment with Amanda Gunther and 1 other girl. Enjoy my sweet niece, you are only young once.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM SHAYSSHIRTTALES!!

Happy New Year to you all. Here's hoping 2008 will be GREAT!!! The Shay family is certainly looking forward to it.

The Jason Shay's are busy with basketball, babysitting, kindergarten, sleep-overs, birthday parties, planes, trains and automobiles and did I mention BASKETBALL!!! The VOLS are off to a good start, we hope it remains that way. Jana is babysitting one of the coaches children. Peija is loving kindgergarten. Her social calendar is always filled with sleep-overs and birthday parties. Joah is just walking around smiling all the time and he loves his cars, trucks, trains and of course his BASKETBALL HOOP!! He is quite the little hoopster.

Zach is off to Mississippi to be the new linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Alcorn State University. The man is always on the move. Jason says he is going to have a retirement plan in every state. He loves coaching college football, he has tried his hand at 2 high school programs but always goes back to college ball. This one keeps us on our toes as always!!

Beau graduates from Podiatry school in June, so he will officially be Dr. Beau Shay! He is currently doing a 30 day externship in New Jersey. He and his girl Jen are anxiously waiting to see where he will end up doing his residency. He finds out in March.

John and I are busy keeping up with the kids and grandkids. We are going to Scottdale AZ in February on a trip John won through his company. Hopefully we will be going some place cool in March for the NCAA basketball tournament.

Happy New Year - we wish the best to all of you!

Peija & Joah's Christmas

Peija & Joah had a great Christmas. They got to ride the "Polar Express" with Mom. How much fun is that! They obviously wore some Christmas antlers. And of course the ever wonderful visit to Santa!!!! Grandma & Grandpa hated not being with them, but Daddy's job requires them to stay close to home this time of year and of course we understand. We did get to see them in November though and it is always a fun and wonderful time!!
